Depending upon the menstrual cycle, it works differently in 3 ways-

  • If taken prior to ovulation, it may stop the egg, to be released from the ovary.
  • After ovulation, it may prevent the sperm from fertilizing it.
  • In case fertilization has occurred, it may prevent it from implanting itself on to the wall of uterus.
  • i-pill is however not effective in case of established pregnancy with fertilized egg being attached to the uterus.
  • I-pill is a one-pill pack that contains low doses of the hormone levonorgestrel, which prevents pregnancy by up to 89 per cent if taken within the recommended time.
  • The sooner it is taken after unsafe sex, the higher are the chances of a woman not concieving.
